Park University Seniors Featured in Campanella Gallery Exhibit

December 5, 2024 — A trio of Park University seniors will showcase their works of art as part of an exhibit in the University’s Campanella Gallery (located inside Norrington Center on Park’s flagship Parkville Campus), Tuesday, Dec. 10, through Friday, Feb. 7. A reception for the artists will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Gallery. Admission to the Campanella Gallery is free and open to the public.

The students whose art will be featured, all seniors majoring in fine art, are: Courtney Flinn, Lakewood, Wash. (attended Lakes High School); Jessica Lowe, Kearney, Mo. (attended Kearney High School); and Hannah Slatier, Kansas City, Mo. (attended Staley High School).

Courtney Flinn ArtFlinn’s said in an artist’s statement: “There are very few works of art of the female form from the female perspective. What started out studying the female form grew into expressing what femininity means to me as a queer non-binary artist. I wanted to make art that spoke loudly without using words. From sculptures to paintings, each work explores what it means to be female.

Jessica Lowe ArtLowe said in an artist’s statement: “My work is deeply influenced by my journey with hearing loss and the experience of wearing cochlear implants. Rather than seeing my hearing loss as a disability, I embrace it as a challenge that has added resilience and depth to my life and art. My main creative work includes ceramics, painting and fibers. I am exploring all these mediums, which I love to utilize in my mixed media pieces.”

Hannah Slatier ArtSlatier, who wrote and illustrated an imaginative children’s book based on the character “Cosmo the Cow” and his alien pal, uses traditional and digital media. Slatier also created a coloring book and other activities for children. The playful, colorful style is apparent in the whimsical illustrations and story.

The Campanella Gallery is directed by Andrea Lee, Ph.D., associate professor of art and design. The Gallery is open during Norrington Center’s operating hours:
