Park University’s Board of Trustees Adds Two New Members
July 3, 2023 — The governing body of Park University — its Board of Trustees — has elected two individuals to serve a three-year term on the board, effective July 1. Elected were Col. Scott Gorman, Ph.D., and Carl Weilert.
Profiles of the two new members of Park’s Board of Trustees:
Col. Scott Gorman, Ph.D.
Gorman, a resident of Kansas City, Mo. (Northland) and retired U.S. Air Force colonel, is director of the Advanced Strategic Leadership Studies Program at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He joined the CGSC in 2009 as an associate professor of military studies then spent 13 years as its deputy director for academics before beginning his new role in 2022. Prior to the CGSC, Gorman spent five years at the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., including three years as its commandant and dean. His time in the military included two years as chief of office with the U.S. Security Assistance Office in Moscow; three years as a C-5 instructor pilot within the 436th Military Airlift Wing at Dover (Del.) Air Force Base and four years as a T-37 instructor pilot within the 82nd Flying Training Wing at Williams Air Force Base, Ariz. Gorman earned his doctorate degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University. He also earned a Master in Military Art and Science degree from the CGSC, a Master of Arts degree in Russian history from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science degree in history from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Carl Weilert
Weilert, a resident of Overland Park, Kan., is a semi-retired engineer with nearly 50 years of experience in air pollution control. In 2013, Weilert began CVW Consultants LLC in Overland Park, a company that provides engineering consultation, including expert testimony in cases regarding design and operation of air pollution control systems for power plants and industrial facilities. Prior to starting CWC Consultants, Weilert spent 38 years at Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, Mo., as principal air pollution control engineer within its energy division. While he retired from Burns & McDonnell in 2013, he continues to serve the organization as an engineering consultant. Weilert earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering science from Rockhurst University.
In addition, the following trustees were elected to serve as officers for the 2023-24 year:
• Chair: Col. Andrew Shoffner (right), Basehor, Kan., retired U.S. Army colonel and director of the Department of Command and Leadership at the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
• Vice Chair: Terry Calaway, Ed.D., Lenexa, Kan., retired higher education leader and president emeritus of Johnson County (Kan.) Community College, Overland Park, Kan.
• Secretary: N. Lynn Craghead, Kansas City, Mo., senior vice president, U.S. Bank, Kansas City, Mo.
• Treasurer: Jeffrey Anthony, Prairie Village, Kan., chief financial officer of McCarthy Automotive Group, Olathe, Kan.
• Immediate Past Chair: Vince Clark, Kansas City, Mo., vice president of business development at Creative Planning LLC, Overland Park, Kan.
The Board also re-elected Clark to a third three-year term, and Andrew Romer, Oak Grove, Mo., technology director, electronic health records capabilities, Baptist Health South Florida, to a second three-year term. Romer is a 2007 Park University graduate.
