News
RecycleMania 2013 has come to an end and the final results were released this morning.
We had the best year in the university’s history, recycling 20,522 pounds of material for the competition. Last year we recycled 11,574 pounds of material and our highest year was 2010 with 14,355 pounds.
What did this mean for the environment? Through our recycling efforts, we eliminated 43 Metric Tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. This is the equivalent of taking 8 cars off the road or off-setting the energy consumption of 4 households.
Overall, we recycled 18,845 pounds of paper; 646 pounds of aluminum; and 1,031 pounds of cardboard.

The PSGA Environmental Affairs Committee, in partnership with the Office of the Environmental Affairs Committee and the Geo Club, are coordinating Park University's participation in RecycleMania 2013, Sunday, Feb. 3, through Friday, April 12. RecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities. During an 8-week period each spring, colleges across the United States and Canada report the amount of recycling and trash collected weekly and are ranked in various categories based on who recycles the most on a per capita basis, as well as which schools have the best recycling rate as a percentage of total waste and which schools generate the least amount of combined trash and recycling. All "green" Pirates can participate by recycling white paper, mixed paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and aluminum soda cans. Parkville Campus residential students will have a competition between residents of Chesnut Hall and Copley Quad. In addition, a variety of activities are scheduled, including trash pickup, a "Go Green" design contest using recyclables and a "Dumpster Diving" event. For more information about Park's activities and how to get involved, contact us at senate@park.edu.
