Online Courses are offered in 8-week terms 5 times a year to help you achieve your educational goals in a flexible and academically stimulating format.
Sociology is the study of people in groups, their interactions, identities, and the societies, institutions, and cultures they create. As a social science, it combines the scientific and humanistic perspectives to study the full range of human experiences and helps us understand pressing social issues and connect them to individual human concerns. It is a valuable liberal arts major that prepares students for a variety of careers in business, government, human and social services, and interpret, and apply valid and reliable data and explanations to personal decisions and to public and organizational policies.
Requirements for Admission
- Earned high school diploma, GED or equivalent
- a cumulative 2.0 GPA in all previous college study
- Completion of the Application for Admission and payment of the application fee
A variety of credits may be transferred in from
the following sources:
- Transferred courses with a “C” or above grade from other regionally accredited colleges and universities
- CLEP/DANTES/ACE credits
- VLE – Validated Learning Equivalence
Core Curriculum:
A total of 122 credit hours are required for degree completion. Forty-five to forty-six (45 - 46) credits are in the major field distributed as follows:
Sociology Core:
- SO141 Introduction to Sociology 3 cr.
- SO208 Social Inequality 3 cr.
- SO304 Social Problems 3 cr.
- SO325 Social Deviance 3 cr.
- SO398 Junior Seminar 1 cr.
- SO403 Social Theory 3 cr.
- PS301 Social Psychology 3 cr.
Technical Skills:
- SO220 Ethical Issues in Social Sciences 3 cr.
- SO306 Writing for Social Sciences 3 cr.
- SO307 Statistics for Social Sciences 3 cr.
- SO308 Principles of Social Research 3 cr.
Integrative Experience:
- SO498 Senior Capstone 2 cr.

- SO496 Senior Project 3 cr.
Electives:
- SO electives at the 300 or 400 level 12 cr.
