Park University to Honor Alumni, Supporters During Homecoming Weekend

Park University will celebrate its annual Homecoming Weekend, Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 15-17. Highlighting the series of events during the weekend will be the 68th annual Park University Alumni Association Awards Luncheon on Friday, Sept. 16, at Black on Burlington in North Kansas City, Mo.

Peter deSilvaAnthony MelchiorriThree Park alumni and one community leader will be honored at the event:
          •  Anthony Melchiorri (left), Far Rockaway, N.Y., a 1990 Park graduate, and host, co-creator and co-executive producer of Travel Channel's "Hotel Impossible." Melchiorri will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award which recognizes Park alumni who have distinguished themselves through career service or community achievements.
          •  Peter deSilva (right), Creve Coeur, Mo., president of Scottrade Inc. and Scottrade Investment Management, past president/chief operating officer of UMB Financial Corp and a past member (2006-15) of the University's Board of Trustees. deSilva, formerly of Kansas City, Mo., will receive the Torchlighter Award, given to honor individuals who have made significant long-standing contributions and commitment to Park University, whether alumni, faculty or friend.
Darwin RiveraGreg Mills          •  Greg Mills (left), Kansas City, Mo., a 1997 Park Master of Public Administration graduate and city administrator/public safety director for the City of Riverside, Mo. Mills will receive the Marlowe Sherwood Award, which recognizes Park alumni for volunteer services to community and civic organizations.
          •  Darwin Rivera (right), Alexandria, Va., received both his bachelor's degree (2004) and Master of Business Administration degree (2007) from Park, and serves as senior solutions architect at HID Global, and founder/principal of Guayama Group Inc. Rivera will receive the Park Promising Young Professional Award, which recognizes a Park alumnus/alumna who shows exceptional promise of leadership and contribution to their professor and/or community.

A variety of other events open to the public will take place during Homecoming Weekend, including the induction of the 2016 class to the Department of Athletics's; Wall of Honor on Friday (Sept. 16) evening, men's and women's soccer matches vs. Lyon College on Saturday (Sept. 17) afternoon and a special concert featuring the students and faculty of Park's International Center for Music on Saturday evening.
