Park University has elected three new members to serve on its Board of Trustees. The University’s Board of Trustees is comprised of business, civic and philanthropic leaders, and Park alumni and friends, who advocate on the University’s behalf. Elected to their first term were: Benjamin Elkins, Dennis Fisher, Ph.D., and Brent Miles.
Tech. Sgt. Benjamin Elkins — Elkins, who earned both a Master of Public Affairs degree in disaster and emergency management in 2012 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in management in 2009 from Park University, was elected as a “recently graduated trustee.” (In 2011, the Board amended its bylaws to include recent Park graduates to enable the Board to better understand the perspective of these new graduates.) A resident of Pleasant Hill, Mo., Elkins is assigned to the 131st Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base (Mo.) as an instructor with the field training detachment.
Dennis Fisher, Ph.D. — Fisher, a resident of Kansas City, Mo., is the vice president of business development for k12itc, a Northland company that provides advanced technology solutions for K-12 organizations. He is also the immediate past chair of the Platte County (Mo.) Economic Development Council. Fisher, who has more than 36 years of experience in education, previously served the Park Hill (Mo.) School District from 1999-2012 as assistant superintendent for business services, deputy superintendent and superintendent (from 2005-12).
Brent Miles — Miles, a resident of Kansas City, Mo., is the vice president of economic development for NorthPoint Development Group, which leases and manages some of Kansas City’s most innovative master-planned communities. His primary task is coordinating development and incoming business for Riverside (Mo.) Horizons, a 260-acre office and industrial development. Miles earned a Master of Public Affairs degree in public management from Park University in 2005, and he serves as chair of the University’s Civic Advisory Council.
The Board also elected its officers for the 2013-14 year — Chair: Ann Mesle, J.D.; Vice Chair: Thomas Holcom; Secretary: Peter deSilva; Treasurer: Scott McRuer. All officer terms end June 30, 2014. In addition, the Board elected Gayden Carruth, Ph.D., Danny Sakata and Richard Thode to second terms on the Board, and Holcom and Katheen Dodd to third terms. All of these terms end June 30, 2016.
