Congratulations to our 2011-2012 special award winners

  • Senior Jasey Huber (conversant in French and Spanish) for the award of a student career experience program (SCEP) opportunity by the U.S. Center for Immigration Services, DHS, in the Kansas City area
  • Senior Esther Francis (fluent in Spanish) for receiving a Garcia/Robles Binational Fulbright Grant for study in Mexico during 2011-2012. Her focus will be Human Resources, and she will begin a Master's Degree program at a location to be decided.

Mission Statement Department of Modern Languages: The Spanish Program at Park University educates students to communicate well with Spanish speakers in the pluralist United States and abroad, to appreciate knowledge and perspectives gained from the language’s history and diverse populations, to listen and learn from other speakers of the language, and to enjoy the great variety and impact of Hispanic art, architecture, music and cultures.

Languages to be taught at Park for Fall 2012

The Modern Language Department will offer these languages, in addition to Spanish fall 2012

  • Chinese 103 - NEW! - offered by a visiting Chinese scholar
  • Chinese 202 - NEW! - offered by a visiting Chinese scholar

The Spanish major at Park University is designed to help students acquire important communication tools that are increasingly vital in local, national and global communities. Students graduating with a Spanish degree are prepared through coursework in literature, culture and professional topics for a variety of careers in business, education, governmental and non-profit arenas.

The Spanish department at Park also welcomes students seeking to combine the major with other academic disciplines or professional specializations. Business, education, law, the humanities, medicine, management and human services are just a few of the fields where complementary coursework in Spanish will expand your professional horizons and personal growth.

Park's Spanish program emphasizes oral and written communication, cultural fluency and study-abroad opportunities. It is designed for graduates who intend to participate in diverse cultural environments and function in a global economy throughout the millennium.
