2008 Honorable Mention

Dalmira Perez, Online, Portugal

My name is Dalmira Pérez, I am a Public Affairs graduate student.  In the fall 2007, I had the grand opportunity to serve a paid internship with the United States Department of State in Lisbon, Portugal.  I lived in Lisbon for about three months and served as an intern for the American Embassy Public Affairs Section.

As I temporarily resided in Europe, I was able do some traveling.  Taking the adventure road, I was able to visit the Portuguese Republic from South to North as well as neighbor countries.  Sometimes I travel by train, bus, rented cars, and as presumed, most of the time, you rely solely on your two-wheel-vehicle, your feet.

The first two pictures, in-out and na espera, which I am submitting were taken in Portugal.  The boats were in the shore of a popular and touristy beach, Estoril.  The one with me in the shadows inside a cave was taken in the south of Portugal in a town called Lagos.  The following two pictures were taking in the Andalucian Region of Spain.  The notorious Arabic architecture that has made famous the Alhambra was simply magnificent.  Finally, the shiny olives picture was taking in the soco, market, of Tangier, Morocco as we breezed through the halls of the market.

Eternalizing images while traveling is more than a simple way to remember your trip.  It is a way to re-live those moments that you spent enjoying other cultures.  The experience that travel gives you can only make you grow as a human being, for it broadens your mentality and changes the way you view things as it feeds your soul.
