Dean, School for Education

The School for Education has a position available for a Grade 13 Dean, School for Education located at the Parkville Campus. Position starts 7-1-2010,

but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President.  As the Chief Academic Officer of SFE, the Dean works with the faculty and staff of the School, and is ultimately responsible for the management and success of the SFE, including all aspects of teaching, research and scholarly activities, and civic engagement.  The Dean collaborates with other deans and offices to promote the vision, mission, and strategic plan of the University.  This position requires flexibility and collegiality. Must be able to lead people in a complex academic organization. Outstanding communication and management skills are essential.  An ability to function at a strategic level is required.

Requirements include:

  • A terminal degree in one of the disciplines represented within the SFE

  • Significant administrative experience at the level of Department Chair or above

Financial Aid Specialist

The Student Financial Service Department has a position available for a Financial Aid Specialist.

 

Requirements are as follows:

Must have excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills. This person has to have the ability to work in a fast paced environment with daily deadlines; proficient in common office software as well as computer navigation; work with a diverse student population; Financial Aid experience or a financial background a plus, knowledge of title IV funding is helpful.  The applicant must be able to assist students in all aspects of the financial aid process.  Previous financial aid experience preferred. Familiarity with title IV programs a plus. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. An Associates degree is preferred.

Information Center Specialist

The Telecommunications Department has a position available for an Information Center Specialist.  This person serves as the first response to answer calls on the University’s switchboard and to assist campus visitors. 

A minimum of an associate degree is required and at least 2 years experience in the field or in a related area is needed.     Applicant must be reliable, punctual. A customer service background is a plus for this position. Candidates must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, excellent communication skills.

Assistant Athletic Trainer

The Athletic Department has a position available for an Assistant Athletic Trainer.

 

The successful candidate will coordinate injury prevention programs and rehabilitation efforts for the Park University Athletic department training room.  Reporting to the area Vice- President, Director of Athletics, Head Athletic Trainer, supervise student trainers in the treatment and evaluation of athlete’s physical condition.

Requirements for this position include a bachelor’s degree with three years experience in Athletic Training or related field; NATA Certified; and duly licensed or credentialed in accordance with applicable state laws to practice athletic training.  This position requires lifting, bending, stooping or standing and the ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Park Warrior Center Director

Summary:

Park University is seeking an individual with a passion for serving the returning wounded military members and veterans to lead Park University’s Pilot Program, the Park Warrior Center (PWC) (http://www.parkuniversitybrochures.com/springmagazine/#/22/) .  The Park Warrior Center Director will serve as the point of contact, project manager, and assist in raising funds for the PWC.  The PWC will provide support to returning wounded military and veterans as they transition to college and ensure that they acquire the skills, confidence and resources needed to become a successful student in a higher education program.  Park University is well established in the military higher education community and has been serving the military since WWII; Park is a member of the National Association of Institutions for Military Education Services, the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges, and the Council of College and Military Educators.  Park University has been nationally recognized as a Top Military Friendly institution of higher learning (http://military.park.edu/).  This position is full time with benefits and is annually contingent on enrollment and fundraising.  This position reports to the Associate Dean of the College for Distance Learning.    

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall project administration and management;

  • Manage the Success for Veterans grant;

  • Prepare annual reports;

  • Serve on the Military Advisory Board;

  • Serve as a liaison between Park University and the American Council on Education;

  • Function as the College for Distance Learning’s representative for the project nationally and online;

  • Project and fiscal management;

  • Serve as the wounded veterans champion for Park;

  • Explore options to serve veterans attending Park University;

  • Travel – 40% -- partially solo for program development and military relations and partially with Advancement office personnel in fund raising and program awareness building efforts;

Director of Distance Academic Services

 

Location:  Parkville, MO

Summary:

The Director of Distance Academic Services oversees and ensures that academic standards and integrity are maintained in Park’s accelerated programs.  The Director supervises academic directors at 38 campus centers and online while assisting the academic departments as needed to resolve academic issues.  Serves as a resources for academic directors; training, annual instructor observations, and recruitment of instructors.  Advises CDL of academic issues and assists with MIVER and other self study reports.  Reports to the associate dean of CDL.    

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain working knowledge of Park University academic processes and policies/procedures

  • Promote the quality of academic programs by ensuring Academic Directors are monitoring and evaluating faculty performance; conducting performance reviews and providing feedback on the reviews to the faculty members and Associate Dean of College for Distance Learning

  • Affirm the provisions and procedures contained in the Faculty Handbook; communicate academic and administrative policies and procedures to the online and campus center Academic Director and Assistant Academic Directors

  • Confirm Academic Directors are convening and presiding over at least one faculty meeting per term. Receive, approve, and forward meeting minutes to Associate Dean of College for Distance Learning

  • Train Academic Directors on required Park programs, policies, and procedures

  • Travel to campus centers as needed for training with approval from the Associate Dean, College for Distance Learning

  • Function as a liaison between Associate Dean of College for Distance Learning, Academic Directors and faculty

  • Assist Academic Directors as needed to locate potential adjunct faculty

  • Ensure students placed on probation are receiving counsel through the Academic Director to ensure student is properly assisted to succeed

  • Act as Academic Director for campus center in absence of Academic Director; make recommendation to the Associate Dean of College for Distance Learning to remove, replace, and appoint Academic Director

  • Conduct annual performance review of Academic Directors and Assistant Academic Director with assistance of the Campus Center Director

  • Assist with MIVER and other self studies

  • Work with the faculty to ensure timely completion of required syllabi

  • Other duties that may be assigned by the Associate Dean, College for Distance Learning

The Mathematics Department at Park University has a position in Parkville for an Assistant Professor in Mathematics.

This is a full-time, tenure-track, assistant profess of mathematics beginning August, 2010. Teaching responsibilities include basic statistics, college algebra, calculus and analytic geometry, differential equations, and higher-level mathematics courses as needs arise.  Applicants must have strong teaching skills and the ability to engage in scholarship and service.  A Ph.D. in Mathematics is required.

The School for Education for Park University has a replacement position available at the Parkville campus for an Assistant Professor of Education.

 

Requirements are as follows:

 

Ph.D. or Ed. D. in Education preferred; M. Ed. with a high level of proficiency and experience with P-12 Clinical Supervision required, Leadership and /or Literacy credentials required; ability to teach, supervise all of the field experiences, and engage in scholarly research and service to the community.  Position includes half-time summer assignment in the months of June and July. Assistant Professor Biology

 

The School of Natural and Applied Sciences has an opening for a Biologist-Microbiology & Anatomy/Physiology.

This position is a full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor beginning August 2010.  Teaching responsibilities are clinical and general microbiology, and anatomy & physiology and associated laboratories. Candidates will be expected to teach other biology courses, supervise student research, deveop/teach on-line classes, and engage in research and service.  A Ph.D. in Biology, Microbiology or related field is required for tenure-track.

Part-Time Adjunct Faculty Positions-Parkville Campus

College Algebra Instructor

 

Park University's Computer Science, Information Systems, and Mathematics (CIM) Department has an opening for a daytime Parkville campus adjunct to teach two sections of MA131 College Algebra during the spring 2010 semester Mon, Wed, Fri 10:00-10:50 and Mon, Wed 1:30-2:45.

Applicants must have:

  • A Masters or Ph.D. level degree in mathematics or in a related discipline from an accredited school

and

  • Received credit with a grade of B or better in the course applied to teach, or one year work experience in subject material of course applied to teach.

 

College Algebra course description:

Fundamentals of basic algebra. Topics include: the real number system, basic operations of algebra, linear and quadratic equations, inequalities and functions, and graphs. Additional topics may include exponents and logarithms, fundamental techniques of counting.

To teach EN 105: First Year Writing Seminar I:  Critical Reading, Writing and Thinking across Contexts


An introduction to the recursive processes of writing, the course will emphasize discovery and writing-as-thinking.  Students will engage various personal and academics genres, with attention to analyzing the audience and purpose for different writing situations.  Course readings expose students to a variety of genres and topics from a range of cultural contexts to promote critical thinking and dialogue.  Peer response, reflection and revision are emphasized through a summative course portfolio.
