Service Learning Through The Park University Honors Program
Welcome to the Park University Honors Program Service Learning site, which is undergoing development.
Purpose of this Website
Supported by a 2007 Individual Faculty Grant from Missouri Campus Compact, this site has been
constructed for use by all Park University Faculty in planning service learning projects for their classes.
Campus Compact provides a national umbrella under which all state Campus Compacts are located.
Please visit http://www.compact.org/about/ to learn more about Campus Compact.
How to Use this Website
Faculty will find links to definitions of SL; general information about SL; a link to more than 300
faculty syllabi incorporating service learning; helpful links to abundant SL information and research
to support their own research and writing about SL; and a database of Kansas City and Parkville area
social service groups eager to host service learners from our campus. This listing includes requirements
for service learners, i.e. training, background checks; examples of individual projects and year round
efforts requiring volunteers; all contact information; the availability of internships; and a suggestion
of academic majors for which individual opportunities might apply. However, listings are not limited to
majors in the fields to which they relate.
In the fall semester of 2007, the Park University Honors Program adopted a service-learning initiative,
whereby all freshmen Program students will complete 24 hours per semester of volunteer activities in their
communities. This website will aid all Parkville campus faculty in finding service learning partners.
It will aid all Park University faculty in initiating service learning projects in their classrooms.
