Park Degree: Bachelor of Arts, 2004

Campus:  Parkville, Missouri

While at Park, I was a 4 year member of the Park University Men’s Basketball team. I received my degree in Business Administration in 2004 and I am currently pursuing my Masters in Healthcare Administration at Park University. I consider my time at Park to be some of the most formative years of my life. The relationships that I made both in the classroom and on the court as an athlete have proven to be invaluable over the years. The lessons that I learned along the way have provided me the skills that I have needed to navigate my professional career as well. My goal as a Council Member is to engage both our current and soon to be alumnus in a way that keeps them engaged with Park University so that the institution continues to be a transformative environment for generations to come.

After graduation,
I went to work. I got my feet wet in the world of management by taking on a role with Enterprise Rent a Car where I learned the “ins and outs” of running a business.

What are you doing now?
After two years with Enterprise, I chose to take an opportunity with Cerner Corporation, a healthcare and healthcare IT company based in Kansas City, Missouri. I began my role at Cerner as a Business Analyst, identifying business and client trends and also creating and managing business operation presentations. Most recently, I have taken a position as a Technical Project Manager and Team Lead within the same organization that I previously supported as a Test Analyst. As I had mentioned previously, I am currently working toward s the completion of my Masters in Healthcare Administration at Park University. This degree not only allows for me to pursue more knowledge in my professional field of choice, but it also allows for me to pursue my goals of being a lifelong learner.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, Bethany, who has put up with me in both a dating and married capacity for the better part of 17 years now. We have been blessed with three beautiful daughters; Peyton, Addison and Tegan. They keep us busy, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Where do you presently live?
I currently reside in Kansas City, Missouri; just a few miles away from Park University’s home campus in Parkville. I enjoy getting back to campus to cheer on the current Park University athletic teams and to visit with my extended family in the athletic department (Claude English, Pat Fayard, and many others) when I can.

Pedro Jimenez, III

Park Degree: Bachelor of Science, 2001

Major: Criminal Justice Administration

Campus:  Fort Bliss

While at Park, I followed the crowd. I did not stick out much I was too busying attempting to find myself (apparently I was lost). I was not sure exactly what my plan was or what I wanted to do with my degree, but Park planted a great seed that grew into the “tree” I am today. I quickly realized at Park that I excelled in public speaking and writing, I did not mind the presentations and the research in fact I anticipated an opportunity to get up in front of the class to present, it became a craving. This only helped my grade point average, which in turn allowed me to graduate Magna Cum Laude and a member of Pi Gamma Mu National Honor Society, which in turn assisted me in attending graduate school not once, but twice. At Park I found what I was missing focus. I was not sure how this degree was going to help me because I was not sure what I wanted to do but as time passed, I eventually found where I was supposed to be…Because of Park’s great beginning I eventually found purpose. After graduation, I bounced from job to job and potential career to career. While I found focus with public speaking and writing, I was not exactly sure where those skills would come in handy. Because my degree was in Criminal Justice I decided to attempt that career field. I first tried my hand at the County Probation office as a Probation Officer for a little over a year. From there I tried Case Management with the El Paso Psychiatric Hospital. I quickly got hired as a Federal Correctional Officer by the Federal Bureau of Prisons out of Long Beach, CA. I stayed there for four years, then as a family, we decided to return to El Paso, TX. I worked for a short time as a State Probation/Parole Officer for New Mexico but I was getting tired of working with the criminal element and needed a new challenge.

What are you doing now? Six years ago I found that teaching was exactly where I was going to be able to utilize those skills I learned at Park so many years ago. I tried my hand applying for different teaching positions, Social Studies, English, Science, Alternative Teacher, Elementary, to no avail. For an entire year I was denied a teaching job and at my wits end and about to give up on being a teacher. I interviewed for a Criminal Justice teaching position at Horizon High School and got it. I am having the time of my life. I found my purpose. Not just teaching but teaching Criminal Justice is why I am here. I love talking about this topic, and sharing my short experience in the career field with my students there is no greater feeling. A little over a year ago I expanding on my teaching and I have been instructing as an Adjunct Professor in Criminal Justice with Park University coming full circle and giving back what I have been given.
