Organist: Nancy Hershey Soloist: Clarinda Creighton, Vice President of Student Services, Park University The Park University Alma Mater HistoryThe Park Alma Mater was written in 1947 and is used at commencements, convocations and other formal University occasions. It is also played each noon over the Parkville Campus carillon. The "Alma Mater" was first sung at the May 31, 1947 alumni banquet, where the "new Park hymn," written by David Lueker, a member of the class of 1947, was presented as the Alma Mater. (Rephrased from Alumniad, September, 1947.) In 1999, the year before Park College became a University, math professor Daley Walker noticed that the lyrics in the alma mater would need some adjustment. Virginia Bruch, '97 M.A.R., administrative assistant to Park President Don Breckon, (1985-2000) contacted several people regarding changing the opening line of the song that read: "Hail, hail Park College" and she rearranged the melody to fit the new wording.
